After Hurricane Ian

October 3, 2023

What Mr. Auster is not telling you is our office is on Pine Island where we had no access off our island or staff to get on to island for weeks. The Friday after the storm we dispatched a boat, barge and two employees that lived off island to go access and take pictures of every single one of our Wild Blue clients. Most had no damage. I contacted Mr. Auster personally to ask if there was damage to his dock prior to this so we could take pictures. Which he replied “My dock was fine until another dock hit it” . The damage was not caused by our workmanship. And we did talk to Mr Auster several times and I did not get a warning message and dispatch the owner. The owner was working on another contractors dock in the area at NO CHARGE and broke free to go take another look. We did not charge for site visits and we did not charge barge fees for a lot of the clean up even though they were not our docks to be cleaned up. Our fabricator and aluminum prices had several increases since Mr Austers original install. His dock had to be removed and repaired before reinstall. We did not raise our labor prices only had to abide by the increase of material and fabrication.

Impossible to get anyone on the phone, won’t return phone calls!

So I had Amberjack install the dock at our home. They did what I thought was a good job in a very timely fashion. However after Ian came along and took out the dock I found out that the construction from this company was sub par. Not knowing anything about dock construction I just assumed they knew what they were doing because they have been in business for over 11 years. Unfortunately my contract states that my footings will be concrete set! However as it turns out, the footings were just cut to size and sat on top of the Rocky ledge. They were not driven down into the dirt and concrete set. So I believe a big part of the loss of my dock was due to this lack of construction process. Also another contractor pointed out that they’re welds we’re not done properly.

On top of that I called right after Ian hit and told them we needed repairs. When I called back to find out where we stood on the list to have my dock replaced and fixed, I was told I was number two on the list and would have somebody come by to have a look and start work within the next month or two. Unfortunately over nine months later and untold amount of phone calls they never showed up to give me a quote for what it would take to fix our dock. Finally out of absolute frustration I called back and left them a voicemail stating that if someone did not come to my house within 48 hours I would let all social media know how they run their business. Well I guess that did the trick because within two hours the owner came to assess the damage to our dock and two days later forwarded us a quote for the repairs. Unfortunately his quote is overinflated and outrageously expensive. Literally half the cost of a brand new dock. Needless to say we will not be using Amberjack Marine anytime again!
